Assessing the Need for a Neighborhood Enhancement Program to Support La Vista’s Older Neighborhoods
Background of the Project
The condition of La Vista’s original neighborhoods has been under review for several years

Concern is that the housing stock in the original La Vista neighborhoods may contribute to neighborhood decline in the coming ears

UNO graduate urban studies class focusing on housing and community development compiled detailed information to assist the review of La Vista’s situation  

About the Original La Vista Neighborhood
Homes built more than 40 years ago; neighborhood beginning to show its age.

Some exteriors have not been maintained; public safety is an issue.

A few homes still house their original owners or have become rental property for the original owners; up-keep can be an issue.

Most owners are on a limited income; paying for repairs may be unaffordable.

The Urban Studies class focused on three areas of research:
Demographics (2000 Census data)
Survey of Residents (conducted by class members)
Rating the Condition of Housing by Trained Observers (conducted by class members)
